The enclave of the Norgate area was originally developed in the 1940s as an area where the shipyard workers were housed. With time this area has been developed beyond any recognition of its past. Today, Norgate is a quiet, shady neighbourhood or narrow crescents. Norgate is known for having ‘large’ lots in relation to the single level bungalows situated on them. Many of the single level ranchers have now been renovated and modified. As areas of North Vancouver go Norgate is one of the most affordable for young families with the average sales price for a detached house in 2010 being $660,326. There is one elementary school in Norgate and it is close to two high schools situated neighbouring areas Central Lonsdale and Canyon Heights.
