The Dollarton area is one and a half kilometres south of Deep Cove in the District of North Vancouver. The area was named after the owner of a shipping line, Robert Dollar, who owned a sawmill there from 1918 to the 1940s. After the Pacific war the lumbar trade was shut down and the sawmill was sold to Gordon Gibson’s Vancouver Island Operation. A cedar mill operated next to the Dollar Mill and the ruins of this can be found in the adjoining Cates Park. Today Dollarton has many cul-de-sacs and quiet streets. Dollarton is one of the few places in North Vancouver where properties with large 100 foot frontages can be purchased without the ‘high’ price-tag. The properties in Dollarton range from mostly single family homes with some waterfront homes with private moorage. Dollarton has two golf courses (Seymoure Golf & Country Club and a Public golf course) and a park, Cates Park which is the venue for many summer activities and events. There is one elementary school in Dollarton, (Sherwood Park Elementary) and one high school in nearby Deep Cove (Seycove Community Secondary).
