Coal Harbour lises within the section of the Burrard Inlet and Vancouver, Canada's peninsula of Downtown and the Peninsula called Brockton of Stanley Park. In the 1990's Coal Harbour was redeveloped into one of the most upscale parts of Vancouver with many high end, high-rise apartments and condominiums. Some of the best penthouses can be found in Coal Harbour with the hefty price tags to go with it. The discovery of coal in the harbour in 1862 inspired the name Coal Harbour. Within the harbour is a floating gas station for marine vessels. Coal Harbour is home to the Vancouver Harbour Water Aerodrome and is located a few blocks form Canada Place. The north western section of the harbour features parkeland and private marinas and several rowing and boating clubs and organisations. Coal Harbour lies right in the financial district of Vancouver. The neighbourhood is dominated by high rise towers and office blocks in the financial district. In days gone by the area between West Pender Street and Coal Harbour was known as Blueblodd Alley because of the many mansions that lined it. Today there are only six floating homes in Coal Harbour.
