In the 1950s Canyon Heights was a major tourist destination in Vancouver which boasted views of the city and the blue waters of the Pacific 900 feet below. In the 50s it is reported that around 50,000 people had visited this area. When the developers were advertising this area after the war they were advertising that Canyon Heights offered panoramic views of ‘Marine and Landscape beauty, mountains, valleys and city...(Vancouver Sun, Aug 8th 1950). It was also reported that, ‘...as development proceeds people will pay fancy prices for homesites in Canyon Heights’. Today, Canyon heights offers some of the most expensive properties in North Vancouver with some house prices of over $2.1 Million. Land values are very high with most homes being 1950s bungalows. Schools in this area include the popular Handsworth Senior Secondary School, with two elementary schools (Highlands Elementary and Montroyal Elementary).
